Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya or "The Smoke That Thunders", is situated on the Zambezi River, straddling the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The falls are located in a deep gorge that cuts through a plateau, with the river flowing over a dramatic precipice. The cliff face is approximately 1,700 meters (5,600 feet) wide, and the river drops around 108 meters (354 feet) into the gorge below.

Surrounding the falls is a lush rainforest, sustained by the constant mist created by the cascading water. This verdant environment contrasts sharply with the drier savannah that characterizes much of the region. The Zambezi River continues downstream from the falls, meandering through a series of gorges and islands before reaching the lower plains and eventually emptying into the Indian Ocean.
